Sleepless Nights

I hear, a rumble outside

as I tumble, tug, and turn

ever resisting the pull

of the clock; the hour

that parts me

from me

the hour that swallows

nocturnal creatures who

breathe into me, company

colouring streets

with their rustling and bustling

as they sing into shuttered sights

to my right, a mechanical

tick-tick

points to city lights

flick-flick

— waning.

And all is slept and swept into a hush

under the sweeping

blanket of seamless Night;

alert I wait, longing for

Life's repertoire

alert I wait, I yawn

till chirps at dawn

as I dream sleepless.
